Mumps.
Understanding Evil
Many are unaware that it is a contagious viral disease that can have serious consequences (infertility, meningitis, deafness, blindness, etc.) for their future lives and often deal with it lightly, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Mumps is an acute, contagious, immunizing disease of viral origin, due to the mumps virus of the same family as the measles virus (a paramyxovirus called Myxovirus parotidis). The virus reaches the salivary glands, particularly the parotid gland, and rarely in adults, the sex glands, meninges, cranial nerves, optic nerve, pancreas, and other organs. But that remains one a childhood viral disease with no serious consequences for the child and today largely controlled by vaccination. It remains prevalent in developing countries. It's when the disease occurs in adults that the risk of complications is very high and it is necessary to act quickly by helping the body by natural means to hold steady ( rest, vitamin C, food supplements etc. ).The name is used only in the plural (mumps ). Before the widespread vaccination, mumps occurred in epidemics on a seasonal mode, generally at the end of winter and in spring in a temperate climate, with a period of 4 to 5 years, especially in institutions for collective care of young children (nursery, interna, school). The disease was very common, with nearly 90% of adolescents having positive mumps serology.2 Vaccination almost completely suppressed childhood forms and paradoxically increased the number of cases in young adults, often with incomplete vaccination but sometimes with adequate vaccination.3

Transmission and Symptoms.
This infection is usually spread through the respiratory tract via sputum droplets and affects children between the ages of five and fifteen. The incubation period is 18 to 22 days. On favorable terrain, the virus multiplies in the salivary glands and releases its toxins from the bloodstream to other organs. The disease begins with headaches and general weakness. Then the fever rises and the parotid glands swell. The skin in front of the ears is taut and shiny without being red, and pain occurs mainly when opening the mouth or chewing. One cheek is swollen and shiny. When inflammation decreases on one side, it moves to the opposite side. The disease usually lasts only eight to fifteen days and guarantees immunity. Adults may also be infected if they were not infected during their youth. During the fever, bed rest is essential if we want to avoid complications as formidable as meningitis, inflammation of the testicles (it can occur from the 6th to the first day and carries a danger of infertility for life) and ears, with the possible consequence of deafness.

Treatment
Treatment consists of application of a clay paste poultice, wasp nest sludge followed mouthwashes and gargles with ripe lemon juice. Since the patient can neither chew nor swallow, give him liquid food: fruit and vegetable juices, boiled, then fruits, milk and vitamin complexes. Isolating it is unnecessary because the contagion begins before symptoms appear and ends soon after.
